To fully understand how a hedge fund operates, one should do research and read article such as this one. If you are not a sophisticated investor or accredited investor you should consult with your financial advisor prior to making any investment. There are many financial advisors who may want or need some additional information as to the general structure of a fund as an investment vehicle. If everyone followed the mantra that if you don't currently know something you shouldn't ask questions there would be no innovation or great inventions. One may understand trading and finance but not necessarily understand how a fund is structured, which is why we endeavored to explain it in this article.

Generally people who start hedge funds or pooled investment vehicles have a background in finance and have managed money on behalf of individuals in a professional capacity. This blog was meant to give some basic information to those who are contemplating starting a fund. Great care should always be taken in choosing a financial advisor. This article just highlights that if you have yet to take the series 65 or 66, you may still form a small fund, once you begin to grow it is likely that you will be mandated to become a Registered Investment Advisor by either the state or federal government. The requirements for registration are listed in the blue sky laws of each state, and each state has a different threshold, the requirements for federal registration are listed on the SEC website.
